    Hey mate, love your video series since i'm thinking about getting this tank too! Two questions, is it possible to switch the smaller Refugium chamber with the skimmer chamber? I want my skimmer to be running before my refugium haha Also at 6:50 the water splashing seems to be quite loud. Is that adjustable or will it always be this loud? Since the cabinet is open in the back that can be quite annoying if it's always this loud

    Floating plants is the answer. They suck up a lot of nutrients in the water and provide shade so the algae can't grow on the glass

    As an analyzer technician, first, you should not dry the probe completely. Secondly, after you put the probe to the calculated solution, you should leave it for approximately 3-5 minutes and then adjust if needed. Same for the second solution

    • @PurelyAquatic
      @PurelyAquatic 3 місяці тому

      The tank is only a year old, so still newer. I think there was a brief period where ammonia probably spiked from the dead fish.

    • @jameswells2506
      @jameswells2506 3 місяці тому

      @@PurelyAquatic A fairy wrasse is pretty small. I wouldn't expect it to generate so much ammonia that your live rock couldn't handle it. Also, why would you run salt that is higher than your running parameters? Just seems like extra complications.

  • @timjohnson3913
    @timjohnson3913 3 місяці тому

    It might be that the high zinc was coming from a magnet or some piece of equipment. Inspect all equipment in the water and especially magnets

  • @timjohnson3913
    @timjohnson3913 3 місяці тому

    So sorry this happened man. I don’t think you’ve found the problem. Slightly increased Alk doesn’t do this. My Alk has been running high for months as I dose Kalkwasser and have very few corals to soak up the Alk, so I reduce Alk with water changes based on Randy Holmes Farley Method on Reef 2 Reef. My Alk is currently higher than the range of my test kit so it’s over 14.2 dkH and corals/fish/snails are doing great. I would test everything you have a test kit for to see if anything is out of whack. What are your nitrates and other parameters (ammonia, nitrite, pH etc)? What’s your salinity; what’s the temperature? If none of these types of things immediately stand out, do an ICP test, or maybe do one regardless. Those new snails died for a reason and I don’t think it was from high Alk. If none of the standard tests you have on hand reveal the cause of the crash, it could be something like the death of a toxic nem or algae. Or it could be a magnet leaching some kind of metal that could be poisoning the tank. You definitely need to do more digging.

    • @PurelyAquatic
      @PurelyAquatic 3 місяці тому

      I honestly think its an ammonia spike from the dead fish that started the chain effect. Last month's ICP did have really high zinc in the tank, but that was coming from the the RODI system. Only thing that's off from the trident is alk jumping fast from ~8.5 to ~9.6 from the water changes.

    • @timjohnson3913
      @timjohnson3913 3 місяці тому

      @@PurelyAquatic Test ammonia then but that would be very strange considering the age and size of your tank. That was just a small wrasse. Ammonia also is food for corals so that doesn’t explain why corals did poorly. Change of 0.9 dkH is nothing in one day. It may have been true that zinc came from RODI, but zinc may also be leaching from something in the tank. Did your ICP test both the tank and RODI water? If so, what levels of zinc were reported in both the tank and RODI water? EDIT: Also, if your RODI water was tested separately, was the water that was sent out for testing sitting in a container with any equipment or exposed to metal fittings?

    • @ShadowMan49849
      @ShadowMan49849 3 місяці тому

      Agreed. That is less than 1.0 dkh over days. That is actually the proper way to raise or decrease alkalinity so that is not what killed your corals. Also have to agree that one fish death shouldn’t have triggered this crash. I’m with Tim…keep digging or maybe send out an ICP test. You’re dosing kalk during all this what was or is your PH? Did something go wrong with a doser maybe? Inverts are still not right so something is still off. Check all the equipment for something broken or open maybe rusting.

    • @PurelyAquatic
      @PurelyAquatic 3 місяці тому

      @@timjohnson3913 Zinc in the tank was 69 mg/l and rodi was 204 mg/l (both really high). RODI and tank water were sent separately during the ICP testing. The only metal component in the RODI container is the pump.

    I was going to get one to hook up to my sump. Where should I hook the inlet and outlet?

    I just got my 125.4 with aluminum frame and want to share as well. I've never had an issue with putting furniture together before but the directions are horrible. Lots of ambiguity and bad illustrations.. Some of the frame is also preassembled and one piece they shipped was broken (a metal piece that should have been checked before sending) that they call a "locking mechanism". The design is weird to me. It seems like the locking mechanisms that join the pieces of aluminum together should be done only to connect pieces horizontally. Then a solid piece of aluminum should be placed on top of that like I've seen on other stands. Instead, these stands are designed so the part where two pieces meet and are joined with one of these mechanism actually takes the weight of the tank. I don't get why they did it that way. So if one of those fails, does the tank fall? I have no idea but the back right corner of the stand can't even take the weight of my 160 lb self right now. It definitely doesn't instill the confidence I was expecting with an aluminum stand vs wood.

    is the gap between the stand and the matt on the tank an issue? I see the same on mine 125.4
